The Bahamas and Castaway Cay are a long way from Scottsdale, Arizona, and our home in McDowell Mountain Ranch. But we made it there and you can too.
Our Stop at Castaway Cay – Disney’s Private Island

The final stop on our 7-night cruise is Castaway Cay (pronounced “key”) – Disney’s private port. This being Disney’s private island, there is no shortage of stuff to do, and it is all done with a tremendous Disney feel. The island features family, youth, and adult activities. There is something to keep everyone busy and entertained.
There are a ton of water activities, including snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing and fishing. Different spots around the island rent out the equipment needed.
While the family went on a 5K run, I got up early and set off to grab the best spot on the beach. We planned on the family beach, as the adult beach allows no one under 18, which we have 2. After waiting several hours for the family, I got frustrated. I started looking for them. I went back to the boat and then luckily ran into the on the tram form the ship to the beach area.
We got set up on the beach, got a cocktail and looked at our schedule. First thing on the schedule was feeding the Rays, at Castaway Cay String Ray Adventure. We set off to not only swim with the Sting Rays, but feed them too. It was pretty cool as they would grab the food out of your hand and your finger could easily get grabbed. It was link a pinch from another finger, strong but not really like a bite.

Swimming with the Sting Rays
First, we met with Zhivago to learn how to feed the Giant Sting Rays. He was a very polite young man from the Bahamas with quite a sense of humor. He went through the process and within minutes the Sting Rays were eating right out of hands.
Then we took off to swim with the Sting Rays. It was very cool!
After the Sting Ray Buffet, we got snorkeling gear and explored the waters of Castaway Cay!
I think we had the most fun snorkeling. It really helped that I had my Go Pro Camera and was with 4 Girls. They went crazy with the under water selfies.
We came across this Sunken Treasure.
There was a lot of sea life that would swim right up to you. I would reach my hand out and almost touch them, when they would casually swim just out of my reach. It was soooo cool!
They were very colorful. The water was crystal clear so you could see a long way.

Family stuff
Bike Rental–You can rent single-seat bikes and explore different parts of the island.
Game Pavilion – Nice, shaded place to get out of the sun and play some different table and board games. There is also a sand lot to play different sand sports.
Marge’s Barges& Sea Charter Dock – Here you can reserve a boat and experience a bunch of different water activities, including fishing, parasailing, sightseeing, and snorkeling. There are a couple different types of boats, including a glass-bottom boat and catamaran.
Pelican Plunge – Water play area with 2 twisting water slides and a bucket dump which drops hundreds of gallons of water onto bathers. Great place to cool off in high temperatures of summer.
Stingray Adventure – Exactly what it sounds like. Feed, pet, and swim with stingrays!
Adults
Serenity Bay – This is a great place for adults with kids to get away, relax, and enjoy some alone time. Atram will pick you up and drop you off a mile away from the main spots. The Bay includes different spots such as a bar, restaurants, and a rental spot for snorkels, fins, floats, and tubes. Oh, and you can chill on a hammock and rest on a beach chair too.
Massage Cabanas–Private cabanas will host single and couple massages with beautiful views overlooking the ocean.
Kids
Scuttles Cove – Convenient, fun place for young kids to play (and if adults want some alone time). Supervised by Disney counselors, there is a huge water play area and other fun activities.
Disney Characters – Disney characters will often drop by and visit, giving a chance for a quick photo.
